The long-standing collaboration between Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) through the School of Technology Management and Logistics (STML) with Kedah Regional Development Authority (KEDA) and “Koperasi Agro Belantik Sik Berhad”strengthened through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato 'Wira Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak said the smart partnership that will benefit all parties involved and is part of the transfer of knowledge that should be encouraged between universities, government agencies and local companies

"For academic staffs, this cooperation can benefit through research and development in the affected areas where the findings can be documented. Through the research that has been done, UUM has earned success in several competitions and exhibitions of Research and Development (R & D) which they have participated.

Among them awarded gold medal at the International Trade Fair (iENA) Exhibition Centre Nuremberg, German and International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX) 23 in 2012.

Additionally recognition from the Ministry of Higher Education received silver and a bronze medal in the Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE), "he said when delivering a speech at the signing ceremony between UUM with KEDA and “Koperasi Agro Belantik Sik Berhad” yesterday.

Signed on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor of UUM while KEDA represented by its General Manager, Dato 'Haji Mohd Arpan Shari and Cooperative Agro Orion Sik Berhad was represented by its Chairman, Capt (Rtd) Zakaria Kamantasha.

Meanwhile, KEDA General Manager, Dato 'Haji Mohd Arpan Shari in his speech stressed the identified areas of cooperation that could be established in cooperation such as agriculture, particularly in the management and development of idle lands, marketing and human capital development.

He added that, with the help and cooperation UUM in developing rural areas, the state can become a model of effective rural development.

"It is expected that a collaboration between UUM and KEDA society can develop and explore areas that can be highlighted." he said.

Also present were Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) Prof Dr Hassan Ali, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof Madya Dr Abdul Malek Abdul Karim, Assistant Vice Chancellor of the College of Business (COB), Prof Dr Rushami Zien Yusoff, Dean of the School of Technology Management and Logistics (TML) UUM, Assoc Prof Dr Zulkifli Mohamed Udin and senior officials of the university, KEDA and Cooperative Agro Orion Sik Berhad.

The Vice-Chancellor signed on behalf of UUM while KEDA represented by its General Manager, Dato 'Haji Mohd Arpan Shari and “Koperasi Agro Belantik Sik Berhad” represented by its Chairman, Capt (Rtd) Zakaria Kamantasha.

Meanwhile, KEDA General Manager, Dato 'Haji Mohd Arpan Shari in his speech stress on the key identify areas for cooperation that could be established especially in agriculture, particularly in the management and development of idle lands, marketing and human capital development.

He added that, with the help and cooperation with UUM towards developing rural areas, the state can become a model of effective managing development for rural.

"It is expected that collaboration between UUM and KEDA can develop society and explore on the focal areas " he said.
