Utara Spice, the first ever community product of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and the initial manufactured goods by the Entrepreneur Incubator Lab of the School of Technology Management and Logistics (STML), will lay the foundation for future development of enterpreneurship activities related to the cosmetics and skin care products.
The UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak said, Utara Spice is the product of the strategic partnership between STML and Kosmetik Utara Sdn. Bhd. “Uniutama Property Management Sdn. Bhd. (UPMSB), a subsidiary of UUM, controls 20% of the shares in this product and UPMSB will be involved in marketing the products. "This project is one of the university’s efforts to generate wealth.
UUM and the Entrerpreneur Incubator Lab will offer training, opportunities and first-hand experiences for students to see the manufacturing process of a product from start to finish, which happens to be a very important aspect in the management of technology,” said Prof. Dato' Seri in a ceremony held at the Senate Meeting Room recently.
He added that the project is supported by three UUM Centres of Excellence (S-COE) namely the Asian Halal Laboratory Institute, the Disaster Management Institute and Technology and the Supply Chain Management Institute. The first stage of this project involves the production of three body care products, namely body shampoo, hair shampoo and facial cleanser.
